Jellyfish in Color - A Soothing Experience

They have no eyes, no visible mouth, nothing that we would pick out as being animal like, at least not when compared to something like a dog or cat. Just clear, pulsating disk in water. There is something about jellyfish that I love, and this is probably starting to be a theme in my posts, but I do mean it.

I would like to own a decent jellyfish tank one day, but it may be a couple years before that is a possibility. These are not yet the cheapest pet on the market. I have also become fascinated with these sea angel (Clione). The tanks for them are a bit outrageous in price right now.

I am assuming that these are the standard moon jellies (Aurelia aurita), as this is the species most commonly kept.

This concludes the visit to the Sea Life Aquarium! On the way out was this huge giraffe made initially of Lego. There was a Lego exhibit built in the mall that the aquarium was in, and so this was by the entrance I went in.

Eels and Sharks - One of the largest tanks I have seen

I am not exaggerating when I say that this tank was huge. It contained anything from large sting rays to a six foot eel. It also was not a standard shape. I cannot help but imagine the work put into shaping this tank.

There were pretty nice coral inserts for this aquarium.

Inside of this aquarium was a six foot and three inch eel (1.9 meters).

A Dream Sight - Deep Sea Isopods

Ever since seeing these on the TV, I have wanted to see them in person. I never thought it would be possible, with them being deep sea creatures and all, but there they were.

I keep different species of land isopods, and the biggest is the giant canyon ones, but these are far beyond anything I have. I may be strange, but I find them all simply adorable.

Vanilla Scented Lilies

Today the weather was rather dreary. One would think that this would ruin any potential images, but it actually provides some nice situations for them. The rain drops on the flowers and plants creates almost some sort of serenity, and the reflections make the images even more complex.

Once the rain cleared, I went outside to get some pictures of my lilies. I hadn't yet gotten a chance to get pictures of them this year, and so these are the first for the season. The lilies have performed wonderfully every year without issue. They are also the most wonderfully scented flowers I have currently. Their vanilla coloration is matched with an almost vanilla like scent.

I also experimented a little with some lenses I have. I used my standard 18-55mm lens, but then used some close-up lenses and a fisheye lens that attaches to the end.

Hope you enjoyed the images :)

Adventures with Saltwater Invertebrates

When it comes to saltwater aquaria, I think invertebrates would definitely have to be the highlight for me. I love the sea urchins, sea stars, and the always curious crustaceans.

Pencil Urchin - Diagram

When it comes to saltwater aquaria, I think invertebrates would definitely have to be the highlight for me. I love the sea urchins, sea stars, and the always curious crustaceans.

With sea urchins, it might take some patience, but they do move around quite a bit. The spines slowly move, they glide to different places, and with some of the urchins, you can easily see the tube feet. The tuxedo urchins seem to be much more colorful and intricate, but these pencil urchins have larger spines.

Chocolate Chip Sea Star

Everyone has to love the sea star. They are actually very similar to the sea urchins, and many will have similar care when bought for aquariums. If you look on the bottom of one, you can see similar feet to the urchins.

Spotted Hermit Crab

I haven't seen one of these specific hermit crabs before, so seeing this one was a treat. It was incredibly large compared to the standard tiny ones that many people have for their tanks. This one being carnivorous, I can see why it is probably not kept in community tanks.

Chocolate Chip Sea Star and Unknown Sea Star

Another chocolate chip. The other star looks familiar, but I cannot put a name on it right now.

Horseshoe Crab

Horseshoe crabs have always been one of those unique animals. They have been shown on TV for having blue blood even. One time at a pet store I saw a little baby one running around. It was one of the most adorable things I have seen.

Slipper Lobster

This was also an animal that I haven't ever seen before. A predatory and clawless crustacean/lobster that eats mollusks and related animals. These are related more to the spiny lobsters than a standard lobster.

Spiny Lobster

Lacking large claws, these are closely related to the slipper lobster above.
